Libra The Star Sign
Libra runs from September 24 to October 23, and it is located in the seventh house of the ecliptic plane, directly opposite Aries. Libra is a cardinal sign, as are Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn. These signs represent change and new beginnings, and they are associated with a certain level of tension and dynamism because they indicate the changing of the seasons. Fall begins in earnest during Libra's period. The days become shorter, the leaves change colour, and nature relaxes after the demands of summer. But it's not called "golden October" for nothing: temperatures can suddenly rise, and the sun can shine from dawn to dusk. So Libra's season is not well-defined.
The star sign is named after the Libra constellation. The Sumerians thought this constellation looked like a set of scales over 4,000 years ago, and the Ancient Romans adopted this interpretation around 100 BCE. Other cultures, however, believed the stars were part of Scorpius — specifically, its claws. Only in 1930 was the Libra constellation recognised as distinct from Scorpius.
Typical Libra Traits
Libra, like Aquarius and Gemini, has air as its element. This means it's a more rational star sign. The Libra star sign is masculine, but its ruling planet, Venus, is feminine. Venus represents a variety of concepts, including aesthetics, beauty, love, emotions, and balance. Speaking of balance, Libra is also a study in contrasts. Saturn is exalted in Libra, which means that its characteristics can be fully expressed in this sign. Saturn, one of the outer planets, represents social cohesion, responsibility, order, and a holistic perspective.
